Welcome!
It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce myself as the 7th and 8th grade Social Studies Teacher at Clinton Avenue School. In order to be the qualified teacher our students deserve, I have acquired a certification in social studies, two degrees in my field, am currently attending Quinnipiac University to gain my sixth year degree, and have 9 years of experience teaching in New Haven. I am absolutely honored to have been named the 2018 T.A.P.S. Award recipient for New Haven Public Schools, New Haven Public Schools Teacher of The Year for 2018-2019, and received the National Milken Educator Award in October of 2019! I Truly am passionate about my profession and our students are the reason I love what I do every single day!
One quote which always stays in my mind is, "A people without the knowledge of their history is like a tree without roots." My goal is to provide each student with the roots they need to grow, critically think, and thrive in a 21st century world. My belief is history, although in the past, can teach us important life lessons to help guide our present and future. With a focus on Project Based Learning (PBL), each student will have the opportunity to learn collaboratively and authentically. I will work to create a classroom which feels safe, encouraging, and fosters positive mutual respect for all people working within it. It is my mission to create and foster meaningful relationships which provide lasting support for my students. This is imperative as we discuss topics of rights, responsibility, bravery, injustice, and even current events.
I want to express my gratitude and pride in working with the students at Clinton Avenue and encourage you to reach out with any questions or comments!
Let's make the 2020-2021 school year, a year filled with successes!
Ms. Sepulveda
